Synopsis / Summary:

A refreshing change from the usual ad-filled, story-laden recipe blogs. Her focus is on clear, concise presentation – just like a classic cookbook. Think ingredients, instructions, and optional instructional videos – no fluff!

Olenka Brandon, a Peruvian chef based in Oregon’s Willamette Valley (home of The Allison Inn & Spa), understands that home cooks want streamlined recipes. Her revamped website is a model for the future of online cooking resources. With her delightful personality and talent for simplifying complex dishes, Olenka makes elegant cuisine accessible to everyone.

Background:

I’m highlighting a friend’s website, because it’s a pretty substantive material design revolution in how recipes are presented online.  We would not be doing this just to help a friend, but that her work is *truly* exceptional, and this new website design is such a profound revelation vs what I’ve personally dealt with in the switch from cookbooks to the sprawling epics that are online recipes on food blogs.

Typically, because of monetization needs and ad space, people who have even the most simple of recipes have them broken up with endless paragraphs, singing the song of their people, explaining every little memory or experience of their life that led up to getting the recipe. This is, essentially, blog keyword spam coupled with padding so that you can insert ads to food blogs. But what if you’re just an incredible chef with an up and coming brand that is rooted in your own security as a chef, without needing to interrupt the straight forward and elegant nature of how we used to consume recipes in cook books: Just the ingredients, and then the instructions. So simple!  Well, our friend and wife of our General Manager in Oregon’s Wine Country, of The Allison Inn & Spa in Willamette Valley is a Peruvian chef, and she revamped her site with recipes, video instructions, and it’s just a wonderful and accessible platform that signals real potential in how we present and use online recipes.  Not to mention Olenka Brandon’s cooking is only matched by her delightful personality, winning attitude, and ability to simplify complex processes into something almost any home chef could try and accomplish.

Our web designer also wrote up a synopsis of what they were going for, which I include here. If you ever need any help with hospitality, hotel, travel, or food and beverage website design, do check out Connected Hospitality.

Amidst this fervent rivalry, many websites have opted to specialize in national cuisines, hoping to seize the vast array of searches conducted by eager cooks worldwide. However, in their pursuit of culinary dominance, a significant portion of these platforms have become inundated with layers upon layers of intrusive advertisements, frustrating users and driving them away.
